President's Message >
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost three years since the pandemic started. It has and continues to affect our lives in so many ways. It has also shown how vulnerable we are to fluctuations of nature.
During our 2022-2023 term, how about we put some of our focus to helping restore mother nature and promote sustainability? Let us dedicate some activities to learn more about sustainability, build a recycling culture, plan a visit to a recycling plant, etc…. Let’s do our part to make our earth healthier and reverse the destructive trends of today.
Over seven decades ago, spouses of the American Military Assistance Advisory Group (MAAG) and Chinese ladies chartered Taipei International Women’s Club (TIWC), with the blessings of then the first lady of Republic of China, Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, to do something meaningful for the people in need. Today, 72 years later, although circumstances have changed, the club continues to honor the very same mission and the three pillars that are the core values of TIWC: Friendship, Fellowship and Philanthropy – these are also the values that keep us united in diversity.
During the past years, large sums of money were raised through clubs’ philanthropic activities and donated to charities in need; over 250 outstanding students received scholarships through TIWCEF program and many blind students with financial difficulties were provided scholarships through other TIWC related funds . We were even able to raise funds to help countries that were heavily stricken by war, pandemic and natural catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods. We shall all be proud of the hundreds of lives we were able to touch through our volunteer work and dedication to love, peace and humanity.
The pandemic might have changed our lives but not our desire to serve and help others. Let’s continue TIWC’s legacy, while at the same time, we take care of our club, our loyal members and our hard working executive committee members who volunteer their time, money and skills to ensure we have another wonderful TIWC year.
